About Sarah
I’m Sarah J Philpotts and I live near Scarborough, on the edge of the North York Moors. Painting has been a major part of my life since childhood. It is something I am very passionate about and find deeply fulfilling.
My formal training started at Royal Worcester Porcelain where I was lucky to be selected for a special training programme. I worked there for several years moving on from basic figurines to more complex birds and plates. I then moved on to work for an American company, Boehm Porcelain, in Malvern where I was given the opportunity to take on more ambitious projects, working on larger limited edition pieces.
Throughout my working career, I have always tried to make time for my painting but at times that’s not been easy. However, now that I am semi-retired, it’s heaven and I can indulge myself, I have a summerhouse in the garden, where I can disappear for hours painting to my heart’s content. I work mainly in oils on canvas, but enjoy working with watercolours and ink too. I paint a wide range of subjects and enjoy nothing more than taking on a new challenge.
You will see on my website my paintings range in subject matter from animals, birds and different types of sea-life. My more recent work has been inspired by holidays in the Lake District, Northumberland and Scotland where I have been fascinated by remote or derelict cottages and moody skies. I have always been intrigued by old Industrial paintings and have loved creating my own versions of town and village scenes.
I really hope you enjoy what you see and do feel free to contact me either to discuss my work, or if you would like me to paint a picture just let me know.
Thanks
Sarah
